Contrary to popular belief, seed banks are not basic facilities in which seeds are simply placed into cold storage until the end of time.
Seed banks are constantly running, cycling through their seed stock in order to maintain seed viability, and to ensure that their stored seeds are able to germinate. When seed stocks become invalid above a certain threshold, the remaining seeds are germinated and brought to maturity in order to harvest and process another batch of seeds for storage, ensuring the continued survival of that species.
This project follows the process of seed storage at Kayanase in a linear manner, taking visitors through the process and allowing staff to go about their duties in an efficient way.
